Fuchsia Velvet Gown                                   page  1   2   3   4

I have always felt that everyone needs a heinous pink dress. I found this wonderful pink velvet on sale for $3.00 a yard. I decided to make that gown as simple as possible with out any sort of trim or beading. This slimplicity complements the blackwork sleeves and the rich texture of the velvet.

One of the main challenges was making sure that "pink" was a relatively "period color". I found a few examples that had the color. I checked different printings to make sure it was not the book.

The example I have is a painting from the a ball of Henri III. Notice the woman in the background to the right. This is the gown that is the basis for my version.
