This is the gown that was the basis of my design.

 For the sleeve I stitched large rectangle of brocade to rectangles of silk. The trim was sewn over the seams. After the fabric was gathered on to the bands and lined, pearls were used to "pinch" the trim at points. This created the "cut and slash" effect I wanted.
